Big fleas have little fleas
Upon their backs to bite 'em.
And little fleas have littler fleas
And so, ad infinitum.

Trying to Keep Up
The war on terror has created all kinds
of new situations and conundrums. Expanding
the reach of courts-martial to cover civilians
in theater seems to be one way to deal with
these new situations. Still, there is something
vaguely ominous about the move.

Crimes Against Humanity
So, Ratko Mladic has been arrested. I have
no doubt that he was behind the slaughter
of innocent civilians. He should be put
on trial and, when convicted, sentenced to
death.
I do not think he should be submitted
to the arbitrary justice of international
criminal courts. His crimes were in
Bosnia and that is where his trial should
be. The vagueness of trials based on "crimes
against humanity" or "war crimes" by self-
proclaimed courts using laws projected on
countries and people not under their jurisdictions
only invites abuse.
We did the right thing in Iraq when
Iraqi courts tried Sadaam and his
henchmen.
Justice is required, but not every
attempt at justice is just.

About Face!
Honduras is allowing their exiled former
president back in the country. I wonder
what leverage was applied to allow that
loon to return. Poor Honduras, I fear
this one won't turn out well.

Caught in a Visegrad
There may not be arch-dukes still traveling
in open cars, but this sure has the feeling
of the historical realignments of the past.
Europe is going to be an very interesting
place. The Visegrad nations of Slovakia,
Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary
are once again being squeezed between
Motherland of Russia and the Fatherland
of Germany.

The Bad China
The Red Chinese are a huge economic threat.
The are solidifying their influence over huge
chunks of Asia and establishing zones of
influence in Africa and South America.
But, the fact that they are partially free marketed
does not mean that their centralized planning
and Red military won't bring about a massive
collapse. Should be interesting and dangerous.
Watch what Japan, Australia, and India do.

The Ties that Bind
Wow, Kaddaffy sure got around.
It's enough to make one a
conspiracist when you read
about his dictator training
school in Libya.

Idols of Unimportance
How many people measure their
self worth by how well their
favorite sports team does and
how poorly their favorite sports
team's rivals do? I know any
number of people who colour
themselves in the logos of
schools they never attended
and speak of hate for other
teams. Strange value systems.
This schmo went so far as to
poison trees. At a Fla/Ga
game a few years back, a fan
of one team was murdered by
fans of another. And Marx
thought religion was the opiate
of the masses.

Domino Theory in Action
The whole Arab Muslim world
seems to be in upheaval. Now,
Gaddafi/Kaddafi/Da Daffy is
threatened. Are they just not
making ironfisted dictators
like they used to or what?

The Right Man for the Job - Yo Time is Up
We've had a hard time getting
the right guy to lead in
Afghanistan. Since last July,
Gen. Petraeus has been running
things and running them quite
well (if all reports are
accurate). Now, less than
a year later, they are going to
pull him off?! That doesn't
seen right or smart. Is he
up for promotion or out to
pasture? Given the wisdom
of the Obama administration
so far, I have fears and doubts.

Just What We Need - More Enemies
The turmoil in the Middle
East (Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen,
and Jordan so far) will
bring about the collapse
of a lot of precariously
placed potentates. The
ones to pick up the pieces
will be the ones who have
some organization to begin
with. In Egypt, that will
be the Muslim Brotherhood.
Nice times we live in.
