'Band of Brothers' soldier Lynn Compton dies aged 90 - Telegraph
Slowly, they pass.
Old, gray men who once
were soldiers. God
grant them peace.

Not a definitive article, but well worth
reading. There's a lot to noodle on
regarding the advisability and use of
drone strikes. I haven't come close
to drawing a personal conclusion.

Tings don't look so good for Chavez or
Venezuela.
"Then again, that probably won’t be effective
against an energetic and experienced rival whose
platform emphasizes reaching out to Chávez’s poor
and working-class base. Which means another route
Chávez and the PSUV could, but shouldn’t, take if
he is incapacitated: declare some sort of national
state of emergency and postpone if not cancel the
October election."

Josef Joffe: Why Nobody Will Help The Syrian People | The New Republic
The reason no one will help the Syrian people
is that the cure will probably be worse than
the disease. If, indeed, al Qaeda militants
are leaving Iraq to fight al Assad, then maybe
allowing these two mad dogs to gnaw each other
to death would be a good thing. I pity the
innocents in Syria, but they aren't the ones
that would be helped if anyone helped.

Act of Valor
Act of Valor was a really good movie.
It's not surprising that there is a wide
divergence between professional
reviewers who saw it and the
audiences that loved it.
I liked this review.

If Israel Attacks Iran, What Next?
This article questions whether or
no the Israelis have a strategy and
plan for the days after a strike on
Iran's nuclear facilities. I think it's
a good idea to discuss these things
before the bombs start dropping.
It's no time for naivete.
